A wandering flashlight illuminates glass cages. The eyes of a frozen cheetah almost awaken. She speaks in my ears and, with her voice, leads me to a side room containing a gleaming skeleton. And she asks: “Would you like to dance while no one is watching?”
Using a flashlight and headphones, the Natural History Museum in Jerusalem transforms into a new space. Nature, preserved in a collection of matter-of-fact explanations, is given an opportunity to wake up and demand answers: what is the boundary between existing and disappearing, between life and death, between the cheetah and yourself?
Hahefech Michai offers a personal nocturnal experience in the museum’s spaces, which have been frozen in time. Since its debut in 2012 in cooperation with Onat Tarbut, this show has become a cult-performance. Seven years later, the production continues to provide entry to a powerful performance-visit in a historical building in the heart of the German Colony.
