After the heartbreaking opening of 2022’s Autumn Cult festival, Nurit Dreamer returns with the promise that you will never walk alone. It is the justice league champions’ team, a derby of thoughts and souls. Always know that whether you win or lose, “you’ll never walk alone.”
Dreamer has brought together Jerusalem women of different ages and backgrounds who share a love for football to form a team of football players/performers. After many months of rehearsals and practice, they are taking center field/stage with this explosive offense and feminine celebration that oscillates between a sweaty performance and a glittery match (or vice versa). Together, they have created a show which is a game – spontaneous and unpredictable, or a game which is a show – disrupted and fantastical.
The two combined elements create a performative space that blends the intimate with the public, sportsmanship with vulnerability, and total devotion with humor. This performance celebrates the blurring of the boundaries between football and theater, life and art.
* The phrase “You’ll never walk alone,” taken from a 1940’s musical number that spilled over to Liverpool fans’ balconies and was later adopted by other football fans worldwide, including Israel, returns to the theater.
